CDL Instructor

Job Summary

We are currently hiring a knowledgeable and safety-focused Class A CDL Instructor to support our commercial driver training program. This position is responsible for training, evaluating, and certifying commercial driver applicants to ensure they meet all state and federal safety standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating commercial vehicles and a strong understanding of CDL regulations and testing procedures.

Applicants must have held a valid Class A CDL for a minimum of the past three (3) consecutive years. Please include your driver’s license number when applying to allow for completion of the required driving record background check.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on instruction to entry-level drivers in vehicle inspection procedures, safe backing techniques, and defensive driving practices on public roadways.
• Evaluate applicants’ proficiency in pre-trip inspections, basic control skills, and on-road driving performance.
• Monitor and assess compliance with all applicable state and federal commercial driving laws.
• Accurately document test results, scoring sheets, and required state examination forms (paper and digital formats).
• Ensure all evaluations are conducted in a fair, consistent, and safety-focused manner.
• Offer constructive feedback to trainees to promote skill development and safe driving habits.
• Remain current on CDL testing standards, regulatory updates, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Minimum three (3) years of recent Class A CDL holding experience.
• Thorough understanding of commercial vehicle operation, including manual transmission.
• Experience operating various commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, dump trucks, and combination vehicles.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately complete official state documentation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to pass required federal and state background screenings, and drug screenings at any time.
