JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for operating various heavy equipment including, but not limited to, tractors up to 80 hp, as well
as specialized landscaping equipment to maintain and enhance the appearance and functionality of District grounds.
KEY FUNCTIONS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grounds Preparation & Maintenance:
1. Operates high powered tractors and various attachments including front, mid, and rear mount implements to
maintain District grounds in accordance with established standards and protocols.
2. Completes the cutting of large, flat grassy areas using high-efficiency specialized machinery including, but not
limited to, batwing mowers.
3. Lifts and/or moves large volumes of soil or other materials using front end loaders.
4. Manages boom mowers to trim hedges and mow hard-to-reach areas.
5. Operates a dump truck to transport heavy loads such as dirt, gravel, or other materials.
6. Loads, secures, and transports equipment and materials on trailers to and from various locations within the
District, and ensures all transported items remain secure during transit.
7. Performs comprehensive grounds maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, hoeing, pruning, weed eating,
watering, edging, and mowing.
8. Plants landscaping, and maintains drainage systems, as directed.
9. Assists with fence repairs and other structural maintenance, as needed.
10. Provides guidance and training to other staff on the safe operation of heavy equipment.
11. Keeps all equipment clean, serviced, maintained, and in good working condition.
12. Maintains detailed records of equipment use, maintenance schedules, and repairs to ensure all machinery
remains in optimal working condition.
13. Ensures all operations are conducted safely and efficiently, and adhere to all applicable operational guidelines to
minimize risk of injury or damage to property.
14. Performs routine checks on the tractor and its attachments prior to, and after, usage to ensure they are in good
working condition, and handles instances of operational defect or damage in accordance with the established
protocol.
15. Assists other personnel within the Department, as needed, or as otherwise directed.
16. Participates in, and promotes, recycling and other sustainability initiatives, as directed.
17. Assists, as directed, in identifying opportunities for waste reduction, and the optimization of environmental
outcomes in daily operations.
18. Participates in special projects, as assigned.
Compliance:
19. Performs all assigned work activities in accordance with standard procedures and protocols established by the
department and District, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, protocols, practices, codes,
and requirements as set forth by regulations and governing entities including, without limitation, Texas Education
Agency, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
Department of Transportation (DOT), local and state land use and zoning laws, as well as local and state traffic
laws.
20. Demonstrates and maintains relevant and up-to-date working knowledge and understanding of compliance
standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the job function.
21. Monitors respective work activity for variances and anomalies.
22. Identifies and timely reports any known or suspected compliance issues to appropriate personnel.
23. Assists with audits and the preparation for audits, whether initiated internally or externally, as assigned.
24. Adheres to all other District wide policies and procedures including, but not limited to, human resources, safety,
and emergency protocols.
General:

26. Assists department leadership in the compilation of miscellaneous confidential reports.
27. Attends departmental and organizational meetings, as required.

31. Demonstrates advanced working knowledge and understanding of safe working standards, practices, and
requirements, proper application and handling of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals, local and state
traffic laws, compliance requirements for proper operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles,
load securing, and transport of hazardous materials, as well as environmental, water conservation management,
and agricultural regulations and standards, and other related requirements relevant to the job function.
32. Demonstrates advanced working knowledge and understanding of systems and applications including, without
limitation, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Auto-Steer Systems, Telematics Systems, and Irrigation Control
Systems. Demonstrates general basic working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook,
as well as Google Shared applications to include Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Slides.
33. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- -High school diploma or equivalent GED
- Two years of experience working in a same or similar capacity; or
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Active, Valid, and In Good Standing Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires frequent and extensive physical activities that include, without limitation, lifting, bending, and
operating heavy equipment, as well as frequent moving and/or carrying heavy equipment and/or objects of up to 75 lbs.
Additionally, this position requires good physical condition and stamina, manual dexterity, and precise coordination of
hands and eyes. Hearing and visual acuity are also essential to regularly hear across varying distances, and see details at
close range to monitor machine operations meticulously to ensure their safe and efficient operation. The working
environment for this position consists primarily of an outdoor non-climate controlled setting for extended periods of time,
and with frequent exposure to a range of weather conditions including, without limitation, extreme heat, cold, rain, and
sleet. Additionally, the working environment also involves frequent exposure to high noise levels, particularly when
operating large machinery, exposure to potential mechanical and electrical hazards, as well as frequent exposure to dust,
fumes, and other elements and materials, some or all of which may potentially be hazardous, and require the use of
appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
