This position is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and directing the Solid Waste
Department.
Major Duties:
• Schedules and supervises the work of all employees.
- Oversees and administers department budget.
- Ensures invoices and payments are applied to customer accounts.
- Ensures landfill is in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Oversees training programs for employees in proper disposal of waste.
- Oversees operations of scales as needed.
- Operates heavy equipment as needed.
- Maintains records of daily operations.
- Prepares reports for the state or county as needed.
- Oversees collections of methane samples.
- Interviews prospective employees and makes hiring decisions.
- Ensures equipment is properly maintained and serviced.
- Oversees deposits to the bank.
- Oversees operation of Leachate Treatment plant.
- Serves as liaison between department and the public, county and state officials, and other
departments.
- Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Five years of experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate
positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of
Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain State of Georgia certification as a Certified Landfill
Operator.
• Or any equivalent combination of education, trainin g, and/or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
