Non-Ferrous Scale Operator / Warehouse Worker
The Non-Ferrous Scale Operator / Warehouse Worker plays a key role in the daily operations of our recycling facility by accurately weighing, grading, receiving, and processing non-ferrous scrap materials. This position is responsible for operating the scale system, preparing transaction documentation, assisting customers, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting warehouse operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, safety-minded, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet customers and assist with unloading, material identification, sorting, and transaction processing.
- Accurately weigh incoming and outgoing non-ferrous materials using automated scale and company software systems.
- Inspect, identify, and grade non-ferrous scrap materials to ensure proper classification and pricing.
- Prepare accurate tickets, receipts, and transaction records while maintaining compliance with company procedures.
- Direct customer and commercial vehicle traffic safely and efficiently throughout the yard.
- Communicate with warehouse and yard personnel regarding incoming materials, inventory movement, and customer needs.
- Assist with receiving, sorting, organizing, and storing non-ferrous materials within the warehouse.
- Support inventory control by processing inspection tickets and maintaining accurate material records.
- Retrieve, enter, and verify information using company computer systems and software.
- Monitor and maintain the site's radiation detection system according to established procedures.
- Identify and report discrepancies, contaminated loads, or safety concerns to the Site or Operations Manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety policies and procedures.
- Stay informed of industry best practices, company procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Perform additional warehouse, scale, and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in scrap recycling, warehouse operations, scale operations, or material receiving is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn scale software and inventory management systems.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to accurately identify and grade non-ferrous metals or willingness to learn.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to safely multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a safe workplace.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate around heavy equipment, trucks, and industrial machinery.
